This is the simplest and easiest way of making Upmas and
Kichadis.
The following tabular column explains, the various ingredient and its water level and cooking method.
Tips:- If we saute using cardomom, cinnamon, cloves and if we add vegetables, oinion, tomato and green chilly, and more water, it becomes KICHADI. If we saute using mustard, urid dal, broken channa dal, dry chilli and cook in dry consistency, it becomes UPMA.
We can't make kichadi using broken rice.

Rava or Sooji
|

|
Direct cooking.
In a pressure cooker,
Saute the ingredients and add rava & salt.
In a separate pan, boil water and add to this.

No whistle.
Cover cooker lid with weight
and switch off the flame.
Leave it for 10 mins.
|
Vermicelli / semiya.
Dry roast it and
keep it aside.
|
1 and half cups
|
Direct cooking.
Here, In a pressure cooker,
Saute all the ingredients
and add salt & water to boil
Add semiya to the boiling water.
|
No whistle.
Cover cooker lid with weight
and switch off the flame.
Leave it for 10 mins.

Broken wheat or samba rava
|
2 and 1/4 cups.
|
Direct cooking.
In a pressure cooker,
Saute the ingredients and
add samba rava & salt.
In a separate pan, boil water and add to this.
|
1 high whistle
and switch off the flame.
|
Broken Rice or arisi kappi
or rice kappi
|
2 and 1/4 cups
|
Direct cooking.
In a pressure cooker,
Saute the ingredients and
add Broken rice & salt.
In a separate pan, boil water and add to this.
